LOANS BOARD
URGENT PROPOSAL HELD UP MR SEMPLE TO INVESTIGATE COMPLAINT I United Press Association! CHRISTCHURCH, 16th January. “When I return to Wellington I will put some ‘go quick’ on the Loans I Board,” said the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, at Springston South, when he was informed that the Local Government Loans Board was holding up a proposal to raise £15.000 by the Ellesmere Land Drainage Board. A complaint was made by Mr H. J. Macartney, chairin'' of the Drainage Board, that the Loans Board was | holding up the proposal. The Minister { had informed him that the Public Works Department was ready to go on with the job of improving the Ell River if the board approved of the loan. The poll could be taken without delay. “I was surprised when Mr Macartney told me that the Loans Board was holding up the loan,” said Mr Semple. “When I get back to Wellington I will find out the reason for that, because we are anxious to get on with the job. I am pretty nosey when I start, and I will want to know -why those gentlemen are holding up work which is urgent and practicable.”
