PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP COMMENCED THIS MORNING ON NELSON CLUB’S COURTS The Nelson provincial tennis championships commenced in beautiful weather this morning, the day being fine with a light northerly breeze. The Nelson Club's courts were in good condition. This morning’s results were as follows: MENS SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP L. Best beat T. Mcßride 6-2, 6-1. T. W. Martin beat S. R. Duncan 6-1. 6-3. P. DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS
NELSON PLAYER BEATEN BY NEW ZEALAND TITLEHOLDER , I United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The pick of the Dominion’s tennis players turned their steps towards Wilding Park this morning when the first series of matches in the Dominion championships were flayed. The tournament, which will continue until next Saturday, had drawn a splendid entry, and in addition to all the present titleholders two leading Australian women players are competing. Despite the fact that the courts received a thorough soaking during the past week, they were in splendid order to-day. Results: — Men’s singles, first round —F. H. Renouf beat C. Robertson 8-6. 6-3, 2-6, 6-1; R. V. Robb beat W. V. Hobin 6-2, 6-2, 6- D. E. Souter beat D. Livingstone 7- 4-6, 6-2, 6-2; I. K. Pattinson ber* R. M. Ferkins 4-6. 6-4, 6-2, 6-3; J. W. Gunn beat R. D.
