A COMPROMISE REACHED
PEACE DECLARATION APPROVAL (Received 22nd December. 1.52 p.m.) LIMA, 21st December. A compromise is reported to have been reached between the United States delegation and Argentina enabling the peace declaration cabled this morning to secure the unanimous approval of twenty-one. States It is understood that the final draft provides for consultation of all States with a view to resistance when any republic is threatened by aggression. It omits to give specific mention of aggression from without the American Continent’s defences. Argentina’s wish is not to offend European customers. Nevertheless the delegates believe that the warning in certain countries in Europe is unmistakable.
