A NEGLECTED LOCALITY

To The Editor

Sir, —Going for my usual walk this evening I couldn’t help but notice how wonderfully drained Washington Valley is. On each side we have of course an eyesore that as far as I can remember has been a disgrace to the Councils whose duty it was to keep the place clean. The footpath has been turned into a watertable. The city fathers have never been generous as far as this valley is concerned, and as for tar, well I can never remember seeing any up this way. If a man left a job half done as the footpath I am referring to is, he would very soon get his running shoes. And that applies to the Council in picking up the footpath and then leaving it. On a wet night it is a positive nuisance as well as a trap for broken or sprained ankles. Attention to this is long overdue, as well as a coating of tar and sand. It makes one wonder sometimes if expenditure on motor cars is eating up the revenue. If so. let the boys pedal the old bike for a change. As Christmas is coming along a man or two with scythes would be a welcome sight to clear away the grass and give the place a general clean up. What the people up here would like to know above all else is, where is the man whose job it is to keep this part of the town clean? Has he been spirited away altogether. Being a mechanical age I suppose the City Council has very few foot sloggers on the staff at present. Well, sir, I usually have my little say once a year, and I hope that this little note will catch the eye of those for whom it is intended. So here’s hoping—.l am etc. A RATEPAYER.
