BRUSH FIRES IN CALIFORNIA

Brush fires which are raging out of control in three southern Californian counties set fire to the Arrowhead Springs Hotel and destroyed it The hotel was valued at 1.000.000 dollars Scores of homes in the Santa Monica mountains were also destroyed, and the fire then raced toward the famous Malibu movie colony. A school bus loaded with children is reported to be stranded in the danger zone. The homes of several notable movie stars appear to be doomed, including those of Madeline Carroll and the di-, rector Frank Lloyd. Scores were treated for burns, but | no deaths are reported. The total damage to property is es- j timated at more than 3,000,000 dollars. 1
