MID-SPRING MEETINGS REVIEW OF TO-MORROW’S EVENTS (.By “Cuddle") To-morrow, Saturday, the Ashburton 1 , County Racing Club will hold its annual Spring fixture, while in the : North Island the Feilding Jockey Club and the Auckland Racing Club will open their two-day mid-Spring meetings which will both be concluded on Monday next. The three meetings have, all filled well and some great racing! should be witnessed at each centre. AUCKLAND RACING CLUB (Single Pool Betting) An acceptance of 33 will necessitate a division in the opening event, the Melrose Maiden Handicap, of six furlongs. With very little to guide the 1 public may select Kenneth Robert. 1 Pasture. J Withmount. 9.10 should send Royal Vaals out of f the Milford Handicap, of six furlongs and will leave Penzance, Prival, Torch * and Ngaliaru as a likely quartette, ; with perhaps Te Poto handy, but at this ' stage the vote is for Penzance. That great hurdler Erination with 1 13.8 heads the Tiri Hurdles, of two 1 miles and, good as he is, will be passed over as “weight will stop a train,” and j this also applies to horses. The Allison Cup, of £6OO, run over c one and a quarter miles has drawn a c fine field of 21 horses, most of which t appear to have some i rospects. Recent winners at the distance are Jonathan, Round Up and Grateful, while, Birthday Boy, Shy and Fidelis won at shorter distances. Master Brierly won at this time last year and was in third position to Mazir last Monday so may be ready for another surprise, but form points to Jonathan. Round Up. Valamito. The Takapuna Plate, of £4OO run over six furlongs for hacks at set weights looks a good thing for Royal Vaals on form, but he will be up against some smart ones in Maxam, Balinavar, Brazilian, Senacre and perhaps Oriental Bay, but no doubt the public will go for Royal Vaals. Te Hero will be endeavouring to reestablish his prestige with the Auckland public, after his last efforts there, in the Cheltenham Handicap, of six furlongs, but with lOlbs over weight-for-age he will have to be all that is claimed for him to win. Paddy the Rip, Arvakur, Far Land and the promoted hack Pirate King will be a strong quartette, while Surella and Miss Te Koura are two smart hacks having a go in the open. FEILDING JOCKEY CLUB (Single Pool Betting) The old adage “horses for courses” may apply at Feilding to-morrow. Tiger Gain, Clessamor, Florence Mills, Red Cat and Airing won at this meeting a year ago with Raratonga a double. With the good acceptances and excellent quality of both hack and open fields the club should have a bumper turnover, and great races.
