OWEN RIVER

A FAREWELL DANCE AND PRESENTATIONS DEPARTURE OF MRS LEN NEWMAN AND FAMILY The Owen Hall was packed to capacity when a farewell dance was given to Mrs Len Newman and family, who are leaving the district. On entering the hall Mrs Newman was presented with a bouquet of carnations by little June Win. Miss D. Newman received a shoulder spray of carnations, and Mrs Wood, sister of Mrs Newman, a posy of roses. Later in the evening Mr Ronald Win asked Mrs Newman to accept a silver sugar basin and cream jug also a travelling rug from her friends and well-wishers from the Owen River and the Murchison district. Mrs J. Drummond then presented Miss Newman with a beautiful eight piece crystal set from the settlers of Owen Valley in appreciation of her: courtesy and the kindnesses she has i always shown to them, which had been | such a great help to those living a dis-1 tance from the main road, saying the' valley would indeed miss her read} I services in connection with all pos f office duties. Mr Win, on behalf of the Owen Hall Social Committee, asked Miss Newman j to accept the gift of a crystal clock. 1 saying how hard it would be to replace her on that committee. Mr R. Diserens presented Mr Jack Newman with a leather suitcase and travelling rug expressing their regret at losing such a good and popular sportsman. . In replying Mr Newman thanked all on behalf of his mother, sister and self for their beautiful and useful gifts which would always remind them of their friends in and around the Owen River. Mr Whitford also spoke on behalf of Mrs Newman and thanked all for their attendance that evening, also thanking them for the beautiful gifts and the good wishes expressed by all. Musical honours were then accorded the guests of the evening. Dancing to Mr Mulligan’s music was then resumed to a late hour, when the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.
