IN TOWN AND OUT

OF INTEREST TO WOMEN Items of interest to women will be welcomed for this column. Where names are given every endeavour should be made to ensure that all are included. As a guarantee of good faith, items should be accompanied by the name and address of the sender. Forms for wedding reports may be obtained from the Lady Editor. Miss L. Rowe, Nelson, has been staying with her niece, Mrs Cordingly, inthe North of England throughout the summer, states a message from “The Post’s” London correspondent. A visit was paid to Scotland, some time was spent at Glasgow and Edinburgh, and Cumberland and the Lake District were included on the return journey. Miss Rowe is now in London, where she is staying with her brother, Mr W. Rowe. She is a passenger by the Orford, which left England on sth November. ** * * To ride the first, second and third horses in one event was the outstanding performance of a lady rider at the Taieri Show at Outram (records the Dunedin “Star”). The event was jumping for lady riders, and the horses that secured first, second, and third places were Coleen, Robert 8., and Silver Star respectively. Miss Grant, of Dunedin, being the rider in each instance. Miss Grant’s success was all the more creditable for the reason that last season was her first with the Otago Hunt Club. ** # * An “at home” was held at the Special School, Richmond, yesterday afternoon. Tea was served by the girls and an interesting sale of work was held. The guests were received by Miss Neddins, Principal of the School. Miss Chisholm the headteacher, was in charge of the display of school drill, folk dancing and handwork done by the children. It was all most creditable to teachers and children. Visitors inspected all parts of the buildings and were much impressed. ** * * Retirement of Nurse Pascoe The approaching retirement of Nurse Pascoe from Plunket work is deeply regretted and many mothers desire to express in tangible form their gratitude to her for her splendid service. With this object in view a meeting of Plunket mothers will be held in the Cathedral Sunday school on Tuesday next at 3 p.m. when further details will be discussed. An advertisement to this effect appears in 4 this issue.
