NELSON JOCKEY CLUB
(By "Sir Lancelot")
COMING MEETING
SOME OF THE HORSES ENGAGED f
The two-year-old Floral Robe did not run up to expectations at Woodville and in consequence it was decided to j cancel the trip to Nelson. Might will be there to fulfil his Cup engagement. He had two races at Wairarapa and ; was thought sufficient forward in condition without taking him to Woodville. His rider will claim 51bs apprentice allowance which will reduce his weight to Bst 91bs which is 61bs less than he carried two years ago. He is the be*t stayer in the race and it would not be surprising therefore if the trophy went to Blenheim. The other member of T. R. George's team to be at Richmond will be Free i Gold, who will carry Mr Thomas New- , man's colours. If he proves good ! enough to win he is sure to get a great reception. The Trentham trainer would have liked to be at the meeting. He had to go to Egmont but may get across for the concluding day. Apart from winning two races on the second day. Mr Frank Flipp. owner of Plaidie, enjoyed the trip to Nelson meeting. He would have been present on Saturday only on account of the floods in Hawkes Bay it was found imposible to train the horse. Of the Trial candidates engaged at Richmond. Esperance Bay. Far East and Girl Pat competed at Wairarapa at Easter time. The last named has the best credentials. As a two-year-old last season she ran two seconds and five thirds. Airam, who beat her both days at Ohinemuri. won the principal event at her last start at Avondale. Girl Pat was third in the Avondale Stakes j to Aiwai. third in the Welcome Stakes | to Francis Drake, third in the Waipi Plate to King Neptune, third in the Nursery Handicap at Ellerslie to The Crooner, and third to Wildflower at.j Waikato. In her last start Wildflower ! won the big event at Waverley. Girl | Pat would only have to reproduce this form to show her opponents the way home at Richmond. Esperance Bay and Far East are stable mates of Mish- ; na at Blenheim. W. Doyle, who will ride the members of T. R. George's stable, was at Wairarapa at Easter and scored on Sunder and Boomerang on the final day. He r '.n still claim 51bs allowance. | Daymist (Nightmarch-Starmist ) is the L'st bred of the maiden candidates engaged at Richmond, but so far has not shown any form. Mr Andrew Robertson, formerly of Brightwater. is over from Melbourne, and is staying with relatives at Palmerston North. He is coming to the Nelson meeting and will spend a holi- i day with friends at Brightwater. The two-year-old gelding Diareus (Arausio-Miss Diaquenod) engaged in the Novice Stakes, is a member of H. B. Lorigan’s Trentham team. He start- | ed each day of the Pahiatua meeting in ! January. Monty Loo. who is engaged in the Trial Stakes on the second day. is an aged gelding by Blackguard. His only recommendation is that his sire is halfbrother to Bobrikoff. a champion in his * day.
