VISIT OF MR A. L. FITCH ATTEMPT ON RECORD TO-MORROW NIGHT j The final weekly sports meeting of ■ the year will take place on Wednesday i evening at Trafalgar Park. It will be rioted that the commencing time is 5.30 p.m. on this occasion to allow the whole c of the programme to be completed in c ; daylight. The events will be: Half and three t mile cycle, javelin throw handicap, 1 men's senior 100 yards scratch, men's junior 100 yards scratch, ladies’ 100 ' yards scratch, men's 880 yards fiat ! scratch, ladies’ high jump, men's high i jump. The American coach, Mr A. L. Fitch, : who it will be remembered came to i | Nelson a few months back, has returned for a further week to conduct train- | ing classes for those who wish to avail i themselves of his services. Mr Fitch | will be at Trafalgar Park on Wednesday evening and will give an exhibition run. It will be remembered that on his last visit he ran the 100 yards in 9.9 seconds, and he intimated at that time that when he returned to Nelson he i would most probably have a try at establishing a record of some sort, so that! j patrons will have something to look i forward to on Wednesday evening. Training classes will be conducted ’ each evening on the same lines as those carried out when Mr Fitch was here before. Those who intend taking les- j sons should first sec the Notice Board, j Classes have tentatively been arranged as follows: | Tuesday: Coaching, 5 to 6.30 p.m. Wednesday: Special and final even- ! j ing meeting. i Thursday: Coaching, 5 to 6.30 p.m.!' j Film and lecture Civic Tea Rooms, ! I 7.30 p.m. for athletes and those interest- ! ed. ; Friday: Coaching, sto 6.30 p.m. i Saturday: Coaching, 9.30 to 11.30 a.m. Sunday: 9.30 to 10.30 a.m. Monday: Coaching, 5 to 6 p.m. ( Mr Fitch has consented to run a fly- . ing hundred yards*event. For this event, , a start is made 25 yards behind the starting mark; the existing record for this event is B.9sec. which is held by C. , W. Paddock. On Wednesday evening Mr Fitch will be paced by a cyclist over this distance. Mr Fitch will also demonstrate a 440yds training run . MR A. L. FITCH While in New Zealand Mr Fitch, the Olympic athlete and graduate American coach, has given several convincing i exhibition performances. Paced by a j horse he covered 100 yards in 9 4-ssccs. His best performance was 11.2-ssecs for ' the 120 yards. This is l-ssec better 1 than the world record of H. P. Drew j <U.S.A.). This morning Mr Fitch visitj ed Nelson College for the purpose of j coaching the boys. He is engaged in ; putting classes through the Serjeant Athletic Ability Test.
