PUBLIC FAREWELL TO MR AND MRS A. J. McKEANY Mr A. J. McKeany. local officer in charge of the Public Works Department. left Murchison on Monday on transfer to Palmerston North. Thirty years ago Mr McKeany first came to the district and was employed on the construction of Sullivan's bridge, over the Buffer River. He was then away from Murchison for a number of years, but returned again later, and for the past twelve years has been a resident of the district, and prior to his departure, recognition of his services was shown, when Air and Mrs McKeany were entertained at a farewell evening held in the Oddfellows’ Hall. The hall was crowded for the occasion, and a most enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with vocal items rendered by Mesdames Newman. Bradley, McDermott and Mr R. O'Rourke. As a token of the esteem in which Mr and Mrs McKeany were held. Mr T. O. Morel, county chairman, on behalf of the citizens of Murchison, presented them with a silver tea service. Other presentations were made by Mr R. I. McGregor, on behalf of the combined sports bodies. a handsome chiming clock: by Mr S. Peyton, from the Hockey Association, a fountain pen. The music for the evening was supplied by Mr J. B. Milligan. On a previous occasion Mr McKeany was met by the employeet of the Public Works Department and presented with a gold watch.
