Tin? death has occurred of Mrs Emily Clementine Marguerlie Mcll.sop, widow of the laic Mr Harold Chrisp Mellsop, proprietor of Brent's Bathgate House from j 929 to 1928. who predeceased her about eight years ago. The late Mrs Mellsop was born in Australia and came to New Zealand at an early age with her parents, who took up farming in the Auckland cl is- ‘ trirt. She was one of the first women in the Dominion to obtain a master of arts degree, and subsequently she was on the teaching stall of the Nelson Girls’ College and principal of Wanganui Girls’ College, leaving the latter position about 40 years ago to marry Mr Melisop Even after her retirement j from the teaching profession she still I continued to act as examiner for several girls' colleges. Mrs Mellsop look a keen interest in golf, and for a period was secretary of the Manawatu Ladies’ Golf Club, and for 15 years secretary i to the New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Union. | She continued this interest on settling iat Rotorua, and in 102.0 was made the first life member of the Rotorua Ladies’ Golf Club. (Mrs Mellsop was lormerly Miss Harrison, of ’Auckland.) MR .1. F. IJ LUCK A P INVERCARGILL, 17th November. The death has occurred after a long illness of Mr John Frederick Lillicrap, who over a long period played a prominent part in the civic and legal life of Invercargill. He was a member of the borough council from 1901 to 1906 and again from 1909 to 1921 and was Mayor from 192! to 1929. As a young man he was a member of the Invercargill Literary and Debating Society and for seven years secretary of the Law Society. Mr Lillicrap was chairman of the first committee which considered the formation of the Southland Motor Association, of which he was president for a term He married Miss Catherine Annie Wilson, daughter of Mr Robert Wilson, Heaton Park, Rangitikei, by whom he is survived. He is survived also by one son. John Lillicrap, and one daughter, Mrs Eric Drew, Palmerston North MR J. WORRALL MELBOURNE, IBtli November. The death has occurred of Mr John Worrali, a member of the Australian elevens which visited England in 1398 and 1899 He was also a leading Victorian footballer and latterly sporting writer for the ‘‘Melbourne Ace.’’
