GOLF

MISS WETHERED’S NEW PARTNER [By Air Mail—From Our Own Correspondent] LONDON, 14th October. Miss Joyce Wethered has made few excursions into golf since her marriage last January to Sir John HeathcoatAmory, and I do not think this is because she has lost her qualification to appear in the championships. In spite of her American exhibition tour, certain competitions still remain open to her. One of these is the Mixed Foursomes event, and once more she is taking part in it. As Miss Wethered she won the tournament eight times with seven different partners, and it has been said that she could carry any man through to success. She certainly did not pick her partners with special care. Now she is paired with her husband, and their entry has aroused considerable interest. Sir John, although boasting a scratch handicap, has figured little in competitive golf. Indeed, his first open tournament was the English championship last spring, and he survived to the third round. In the meantime I understand that his game has improved under the guidance of his wife, and there is no doubt that they will be a formidable partnership. Once more the Foursomes have received a notable entry, including many women players from France, the chief being Mile. F. Tolion, a former French champion. She is playing with J. J. F. Pennink. the English champion.
