PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY DISCUSSION
IHy telegraph-Ureas Association!
AUCKLAND, 17th November
A discussion on the place of women in the conduct of church affairs took place in the Presbyterian Assembly, when Mr J. M. Dick moved that the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union be asked to nominate one representative to the youth, public questions, and temperance committees. The Rev. J. D. Smith said the assembly should retain the power of nomination and proposed that two women should be appointed to each of flic committees named This was accepted by Mr Dick. An amendment was proposed by the Rev. D. J. A. Shaw, in. favour of leaving matters as at present. He said the addition of women might easily hinder the work of the committees. The Rev. J, D. Smith said the coiicy of refusing to discuss the serious things of life in the presence of women was foolish.
The amendment was lost and Mr Dick's motion carried.
