ALL-STEEL TRAIN
"SPIRIT OF PROGRESS” TRIAL RUN IN VICTORIA (United Pious Association-Kv Electric Telegraph—Copy riglitl MELBOURNE, This Day. Three hundred passengers, guests of the Victorian Railways Commissioners, to-day enjoyed a trial run in the new all-steel express named "Spirit of Progress,” which was built at a cost o £190,000. The train will be used the Mclbournc-Albury section of tli. Sydney line. It reached a speed to-day of 80 miles an hour. Air-conditioned throughout, it proved revelation in railway transport. After the christening of the train by the Premier, Mr A. A. Dunstan. the chairman of the commissioners, Mr H. W. Clapp, said: “The train is the department's answer to all other forms of transport. It is a great pioneering work of railroading in Australia. It is ihe finest train in Australia, ranking with the best in the world."
Passengers were delighted with the interior silence, the pleasant temperature and luxurious furnishings.
