Improvement work carried out on Grown lands for the purpose of giving employment to unemployed men was discussed in the House of Representatives last evening, when the Estimates for the departments concerned with land were considered. Discussing the vole of £386.000 for 1 the Department of Lands and Survey, , the Minister of Lands (the Hon. F. | Lang.stone), in reply to the Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. Adam Hamilton ). said the vote had decreased bc!cause the discharged soldier settlers had been taken over by the State Advances : Corporation. 1 Mr Hamilton asked if the number of persons on the land had increased or , if there had been ail influx of rural i population to the towns. According to the report of the De- , nartment, vairl Mr Hamilton, there were ; about 1.250.000 acres suitable for settlement still unsettled.
