SWIMMING
NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS, IN NELSON AITOINTMENT OF COMMITTEES MEETING OF CENTRE EXECUTIVE A meeting of the executive of the Nelson Swimming Centre was held at the Institute last evening, mainly for the purpose of setting up committees to undertake various duties in connection with the Dominion Junior and Intermediate Championships, which are being held at Nelson in January next. The championships were to have been held in Nelson last Easter, but the meeting wa i postponed owing to the infantile paralysis epidemic. The chairman (Mr F. E. Boulton) said that the organising of the championships would involve the local centre in a great deal of work, though he felt sure that they would have the full support of the public. Mr Boulton then moved that the Mayor (Mr G. L. Bilge), be re-elected to the position of patron of the championships, the motion being carried The following committees were elected'. Billc'ing committee Messrs F. E. Boulton (convenor), 11. Davy, W. Wilson, Miss E Stewart, and Mrs Fieldes. Advertising committee: Messrs E. F. Ward (convenor). E. Coote. C L. Cato and A. T. Bolam. Entertainment committee: Messrs L. Calo (convenor), E. F. Ward, E. Motfait, J. South, Mrs Taylor, Miss Quinton, Miss E. Stewart, Mrs Fieldes. Officials committee Messrs Boulton, Bolam, Coote and Mel tardy. The appointment of a records committee was left in abeyance. Ladies’ committee: The executive of the Ladies’ Swimming Club, with power to add; convenor. Miss Stewart. The following officials were appointed: Organising manager, Mr Boulton; secretary. Mr Bolam; assistant secretary, Mr Cato. On Mr Cato's suggestion it was decided io solicit the support of the Rotary Club, Toe II and other community service organisations in assisting 1o entertain competitors and visitors during the championship meeting. To obviate matters dealing with the championship meeting being dealt with by the Centre Committee it was decided, on the motion of Mr Bolam. to form an executive consisting of the convenors of the various committees and the officials. The chairman explained that several members of the Centre Committee would be on holiday prior to the holding of the championships, so that a special executive would be necessary to deal with the business satisfactorily. It was resolved to request the support of the Advance Nelson Association and the Rotary Club in forming a deputation to interview the Anchor Company for the purpose of gaining a concession in fares for championship competitors coming from the North Island. A discussion ensued on the raising of funds, the chairman stating that £IOO would be necessary to provide a safeguard in the event of the championships being marred by wet weather. It was finally decided to conduct an art union, which is to be organised by Mr Ward
