MAI’UA BRANCH LKi-oin Our Own CuiTCSpomlciiL] The November meeting of the Mapua j branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was not so well attended as usual, a number of apologies being received. The president, Mrs Ross, was in the chair, and in the secretary’s , unavoidable absence, Mrs Price kindly filled her place. Members were interested to learn that to the conveniences already provided by the Plunket rest room in Nelson, have been added prams for hire at a small charge per day, including mattress, pillow and clean 1 pillow case. A kettle of boiling water can also be obtained for a penny. These | facilities will be much appreciated by country mothers visiting town. The president reported that it had now been decided that in cases where j members had applied for the services of Division housekeepers and such were not available; it such members wore able to procure other housekeepers.i headquarters would he prepared to assist financially from the community chest where such assistance was needed. A letter had been received from the Bluffs annual spoils committee asking if the branch would like to under-: take Ihe provision of afternoon tea at the end-of-season sports next April, any profits to belong to the Women's Division. This matter is to be decided at (lie next meeting. The matter of assisting at the approaching Plunket and school fair arranged for till) December is also to be dealt with at the next meeting. The roll call “Should husbands help in the house?" evoked a very good and animated response; and the cooking | competition, “a plate of scones” was! won by Mrs Argue, all the entries be- j ing sold afterwards to help the funds. > A novelty competition, “making a set of artificial teeth,” caused great amusement as a number of amateur dentists! got. to work. This was won by Mrs: Wakefield* whose set when finished was ! much admired. An address by Mr A. Douglas on "The Garden,” which was down on the programme, he found : necessary on account of pressure of: work to postpone till a date to be fixed !' early next year. The meeting closed, with the National Anthem.
