MOTUEKA SAFE-BATHING SOCIETY

At a special meeting of the Motueka Safe Bathing Society, the Mayor (Mr R. J. L. York), who is president of the Society, occupied the chair. He explained that the meeting had been called to consider the arrangements in connection with a Paddy's market. A copy of the new lease from the Harbour Board to the Society was received from the solicitors. Messrs York, Ovens and Oxley were authorised to sign the lease on behalf of the Society. Mrs G. James reported that £8 8s Gd had ben collected by her in the main street, and that Miss Pearlcss had offered, as her donation, a permanent wave. Several business firms had also given donations, and generous support had come from the Beach area. Mr Ovens reported that money in the bank amounted to £44 4s 7d, including £33 taken over from the olcl society. On the motion of Messrs Oxley and Ovens a vote of thanks was passed to the collectors. Mr Oxley suggested that Mr Harry Manoy, treasurer of the old swimming club, be approached with*regard to the unexpended funds of the Club being donated to the Society. After discussion it was decided that the Paddy’s Market be held on Friday next in the W.D. Hall and that the sessions open at 2 p.m. and at 7 p.m., also that the competitions be drawn at 9 p.m., and that the Municipal Band play in front of the Municipal buildings, prior to the commencement of the market. Mr Ovens proffered the suggestion that a working bee be arranged to make the Beach attractive, especially for the children. Mr York staled that interest in the Beach improvements was very keen.
