LONDON. 13th November, i England beat Australia by 13 points to 3 in the second Rugby League Test after leading 3-0 at half-time. Bright, sunny weather prevailed and the ground was hard. Norval did not play. A big crowd saw’ a terrific sec-saw struggle. Pearce received an injury to the head and was carried off. He later resumed. The first score came from a fine try by the Salford men, Watkins. Jenkins, Hudson, Risman and Edwards, after 31 minutes. Risman failed with the kick. A minute later Beaton failed with a long-range shot. After a great move by the backs, Brogden flew for the line, but Ward tackled him into touch-in-goal. Risman three yards from half-way failed with a kick, but succeeded a minute later. England 5, Australian 0. Prigg passed to B. Williams, who kicked. Hcidke followed up, secured and passed to Reardon, who made a great run, but was downed on the line. He flung the ball to Dawson, who scored. Beaton failed to convert. England 5, Australia 3. Risman failed with a long shot, and Beverley set Long attacking. Despite offside play, England kept up the pressure. Then Edwards scored a second try from a passing movement, although the last pass seemed forward. With 30 minutes to go, Risman scored a great goal. England 10, Australia 3. England’s defence was always too solid for the Australians. Near time, Norman missed a pass from Ward and Hudson toed the ball over the line for a try. Risman missed the kick and England won 13-3. The crowd numbered 31,724, and the gate takings were £3815.
