Arrangements have been made for the Government patrol boat Larrakia to stand by while Miss Jean Batten is crossing the Timor Sea to-morrow. The Larrakia lias proceeded 100 miles across the sea and will remain there until Miss Batten is reported safely across. The Dutch authorities have agreed to have seaplanes on the other side in readiness for an emergency. Miss Batten will take off, weather permitting at 6 a.m.

By the last Australian mail Mr H. S. Gipps, of Atawhai, received from 1 Miss'Jean Batten an enlarged photograph of her landing at Mascot aerodrome on 13th October last year, on her arrival from England. The photograph was signed by Miss Batten. It will be recalled that Miss Batten continued her flight to New Zealand. Mr Gipps wrote some verse in application of the New Zealander’s flight, and forwarded her a copy. Clouston, using the same machine as he flew in the International Air Race from Paris to Damascus last August, is planning an attempt this week on Amy Johnson's London-Cape record. BROADBENT’S START DELAYED (Received 19th October, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, 18th October. Fog prevented Mr H. F. Broadbent departing from Hanworlb in an attempt to beat Miss Batten’s record. He says he hopes to go this week, possibly on Tuesday or Wednesday. His departure depends upon the weather. Mr Broadbent is using the machine with which he created a record from Australia to England.
