OBITUARY
MR WILLIAM ROBERT ANCELL The death occurred on Saturday of Mr William Robert Ancell, one of Nelson’s well-known and highly respected business men, in his 72nd year. Born in Waikouaiti where his early schooling commenced, the iate Mr Ancell arrived in Nelson with his parents in 1880, and continued his education at Nelson College. On leaving College he entered his father’s business in Trafalgar street. On his father's decease in 1906, he was appointed manager, later acquiring the business on his own account. The business was formed into a limited liability company in 1931, and is known to-day as Ancell’s Pharmacy Ltd., the late Mr Ancell being managing director up to the time of his death. He was of a retiring disposition, and took no actual part in public affairs, although he was always keenly interested in, ami supported any movement for the advancement of the city. He was a member of Court Robin Hood, A. and held the office of Provincial Trustee curing the past four years. The late Mr Ancell is survived by three sons and two daughters: Mr Robert C. Ancell (Wellington), Mr N. H. Ancell (Wellington), Mr C. W. Ancell (Cambridge); Mrs C. Vowell (Mangatainoka), and Mrs R. S. Walker (Nelson). Mr W. C. Ancell, of Wellington, is a grandchild and there are seven others. Miss Ancell (Nelson, Miss M. E. Ancell (Wellington), and Mrs E. Allnalt (Stoke), are sisters, and Mr M. C. An •ell, of Fciiding, is a brother. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon. Canon Haultain officiating. A large and representative attendance, there being between 30 and 40 cars in the cortege, gave evidence of the high respect in which the deceased was held. The pall-bearers were: Mr F. West (Nelson Pharmacy Guild), Messrs R. Hunter and T. Tibbie (Foresters), and Messrs B. Allnalt, A. Vickerman, and B. Lane.
