MOTUEKA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MONTHLY MEETING A pleasant afternoon was spent at the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute, held in St. Thomas’ school room on Friday. Mrs Atkins presided over a fair attendance of members —and several apologies were received. The meeting commenced with the singing of the Institute Ode, after which the president announced the motto for the month, “Few things are impossible to diligence and skill.” In connection with the combined effort of the Women’s Division and the Women’s Institute for the Crippled Children’s Fund, it was decided to hold a street stall on 29th October. Members and others were asked to notify the secretary of any goods, which they would like collected for same.

The annual garden party was fixed to take place at Mrs G. Manifold’s residence at 11th December. A reminder was given to members and friends of the Flag Five Hundred finale, which is to be held on Thursday in aid of the Fire Brigade. Mrs J. O. Anderson, delegate to the Half Yearly Council meeting, gave a very comprehensive report, for which

she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. It was announced that the Institute had still a quantity of basketware and leather goods for sale on behalf of the Blind Institute and Disabled Soldiers.

A puzzle competition was held during the afternoon and was won by Mrs Stout. The Golden Thread theme was taken by Mrs Wort. The competitions, which were kindly judged by Mrs King were won by Mesdames Bate and Anderson. The vase competition was won by Mrs A. Douglas.

Members were informed that the next monthly meeting would be held in the evening. Mesdames Lunn, Alexander, Woolf, Manifold and Mason dispensed afternoon tea; and the singing of the National Anthem ended a happy afternoon.
