MILITARY BALL
The annual ball ol the .Motueka Platoon of the N.M. and W.C. Regimen*, held in the Institute Hall on Friday evening, was voted a thoroughly enjoyable function by the many dancers, who attended from all parts of the district and from Takaka and Nelson. Blue and gold streamers (regimental colours) predominated in the artistic decorations, which adorned the hall; and, intermingled with the streamers, forming a central canopy, were strings of red, white and blue flags, balloons and coloured lights. On the stage large red, white and blue rosettes made a colourful and attractive background.
With a well-burnished floor and spirited music, prodded by Harold Williams’s orchestra of six players, dancing went into a swing from the commencement of the programme till the final waltz. Sergeant C. H. Dutton capably carried out the duties of M.C. and extras were played by Mr K. Reynish. Not the least attractive item was the excellent supper, dispensed by the Territorials, assisted by a small, but enthusiastic ladies’ committee, consisting of Mesdames Ellery, J. Gadd and Misses L. and J. Goodall.
Prizes for the Monte Carlo dance went to Mr Do Nicolo and Miss P. Pearless.
