The screen’s first Juliet, lovely Norma Shearer, who has not been seen in pictures since the death of her famous producer-husband Irving Thalberg last year, is the new world’s favourite film actress. According to a questionnaire answered by 159,723 representative filmgoers from all parts of the world, Norma ranks higher than any other actress. Top of the poll in film actors, standing head and shoulders above all the others, is Gary Cooper, of "Mr Deeds Gees to Town” fame. Men’s favourite star is revealed as Myrna Loy, second in the general list of favourite actresses. Clark Gable still ranks as top among women fans, and stands second in the general list of actors. And if you’re interested, here are the first six in each list: Of the men, Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, Charles Laughton. Robert Taylor, Ronald Colman, and William Powell. Leading ladies are— Norma Shearer, Myrna Loy, Greta Garbo, Ginger Rogers, Claudette Colbert, and Shirley Temple.
