TAHUNANUI TOWN BOARD

THE FORTNIGHTLY GENERAL • f MEETING There were present at last evening's meeting of the Tahunanui Town Board Messrs M. O’Sullivan, chairman, T. Roberts, A. Stagg, C. Palmer, W. Tiller, J. Logan and C. Chamberlain. Accounts amounting to £35 8s were passed for i payment. The chairman referred to the death of Mr T. Heath. He pointed out that Mrs Heath had always been an energetic worker in the district, and moved that a letter of sympathy be sent to the family of the deceased. The motion was carried, members standing in silence as a mark of respect. FOREMAN’S REPORT The foreman, Mr E. E. Win reported for the period ending 19th June as follows: — “As the gravel for patching footpaths and metalling Muritai street came to hand I have repaired Muritai street, Golf road and Parker’s road as far as the metal would permit. Owing to a shortage of metal there are still parts of Green street, Parker’s road and Moana street to complete. It will take another load to do the balance required.” Atttention has been paid to the Muritai ditch, and further work is to be done in Edward street ditch and in front of the quarry. Two loads of metal for footpaths and two for road metalling are to be distributed. A circular was received from the Main Highways Board regarding the declaration of main highways. Application is to be made for the extension of the present highway from Rocks road to the district boundary on top of Moana, connecting with Washington Valley. The matter is to be forwarded to the local Public Works engineer for approval. The Waimea Power Board wrote in reply to representations made by the board for a flat rate quotation for street lights. It was stated that Tahunanui had 25 lights, the cost per annum, including all maintenance work per lamp being £3 15s for 100 candle power, and £4 15s for 250 candle power. It was pointed out that the above rates would not be applicable until the present system was disconnected from the city supply. The Waimea Power Board was thanked for the quotation and the clerk was instructed to go into the matter. The Waimea County Council stated that it held no objection to Mr Cooper preparing plans for the Tahunanui water scheme. The Hospital Board's levy for the year was announced at £275, and had been approved by the Minister of Health. After inspection of the Fire Brigade garage, the board decided to cover the earthern floor with a plant mix preparation. A list of further requirements submitted is being considered. Application for the erection of a Sunday School building in Muritai street was received. The plan is to be referred back to the vestry for further particulars as the sketch submitted was considered too vague. The clerk gave notice that 100 extra motor licenses were expected to arrive on Wednesday. The extended licenses are to be returned and fresh ones issued.
