MAGISTRATE’S COURT

At a sitting of the Magstrate’s Courl in Collingwood Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M presided.

W. U. Satherley, li|censee of the Post Office Hotel, was charged with selling liquor after hours. Constable Randall, giving evidence, stated that at 9.40 p.m. on 29th March he visited the hotel and found the bar fully lighted, the bar door was wide open and several boarders were in the bar. In the bar parlour were three men standing before the bar slide with empty glasses near at hand. They admitted having been served with liquor. The licensee was present in the room ano two men, Messrs W. D. Allan and J. R. Morris were also behind the bar acting as barmen. Allan and Morris being persons other than the licensee were charged with unlawfully supplying liquor. Defendants were represented by consel, and Allan and Satherley pleaded guilty. Satherley was fined £1 and costs, and Allan £2 and costs. The case against Morris was dismissed. Three first offenders for being found on licensed premises after hours were each fined 10s and costs.

Nola May Stevenson applied for separation and maintenanet orders against Edward Stevenson. After hearing lengthy evidence the Magistrate granted complainant separation and maintenance orders with custody of the one child of the marriage. Similar orders were sought by Jessie Cleopatra Tinsley against Joseph Tinsley. After hearing the evidence the Magistrate made the orders sought with custody of the three children of the marriage. In a judgment summons case Ethel McGregor v. Thomas Skilton, on a claim for £ll 18s 2d, an order was made for payment at the rate of 10s per month.

At the sitting of the Warden’s Court before Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M., the application of Harrison, Dalton, Dalton and Skilton, of Takaka, for a tunnel prospecting license was granted. From the Diamonds Flat Goldmining Company, Limited, two applications for water-race rights— were received and were adjourned until the next sitting on 11th August.

L. I. Mein's application for a certificate of proetction in respect of two extended river claims for a period of live months was granted.
