W.D.F.U.

THE RICHMOND BRANCH The April meeting of the Richmond Branch of the W.D.F.U. was held in the rest room, Mrs Hockey presiding. Mrs Hockey welcomed many visitors. In the absence of the secretary Mrs Best read the annual report in which it was mentioned that at every meeting in the last year the branch had some helpful demonstration or lecture. Donations had been given to the Health Camp, Plunket Rest Room in Nelson, Crippled Soldiers’ Society, Leper Station and the Community Chest Fund.

A tribute was paid to Mrs Woods, retiring president, Mrs Hockey, incoming president, was welcomed. The Gardening Circle with Mrs Troup as convener have done much to brighten the meetings with flowers, and at times making gifts to the hospital . The Play Reading Circle with Mrs Giblin as leader is quietly working, having given through the year four readings in public. Mention was made in the report of the help and advice given to the Division by Mr Watt. The hostesses know the value of his help. Mrs Woods gave the president’s report. Mr Palmer was elected a delegate for provincial meeting. The roll call "How to help the Division,” brought forth many helpful suggestions. The competition “Old Photos” was won by Mrs Cromie. Mrs H. Johnston delighted all with a beautiful solo. Afternoon tea was then dispersed the hostesses being Mesdames Deere, Grooby, Hock, W. and R. Hart. A very interesting demonstration of wreath making was given by Mrs McKee, of Wellington. The beautiful floral emblem was afterwards taken and placed on the grave of the branch's first president the late Mrs Thomas. Owing to Coronation Day the next | meeting has been postponed to the 19th ' of May when Mrs Gilbert is to give a | demonstration of Italian Quilting. The Gardening Circle competition, “A Posy,” was won by Mrs Palmer 1, Mrs Troup 2.
