HARRIER NOTES

THE NELSON CLUB WEEKLY RUN HELD AT TAHUNANUI OFFICERS ELECTED Tahunanui always a popular spot with local harriers, was the scene of last Saturday's weekly run. R. Coote and M. McGlashen, the hares, laid a trail, which lent great variety to the afternoon’s sport covering as it did the beach, mudilat, sand-dunes, the open country beyond the new aerodrome, and the main road from Annesbrook Crossing to the “Hut." J. Mulvey was first home, followed by J. Barron and S. MacArthur, after a four hundred yard handicap run-in.

At the conclusion of the run members were the guests of the club chairman, Mr T. Carpenter at tea. At a meeting held later the following office bearers were elected for the ensuing season: Club captain, S. McArthur; deputy captain, J. Mulvey; committee, R. Coote and M. McGlashen; secretary, D. Holyoake. For next Saturday’s run, which will be held from the residence of Mr Hutson, Emano street, members will meet outside Lambert's store in Hampden street. MASTERTON HARRIER CLUB’S JUBILEE On 15th May, 1912 the Maslerton Harrier Club was first formed by a meeting of athletes in Murray's Hall and the club has been functioning since, except for a break in the War years. To-day there are many men who, in their younger days were staunch supporters of this club and therefore it is intended celebrating this 25th anniversary in a fitting manner on 15th May, 1937. A cordial invitation is extended to all ex-members and officials to be present at the Park Oval on the day to revive old friendships and also to participate in the events being held for the older members of the club. The functions are to take the form of a 5 mile invitation race to which clubs from Wanganui, Napier, Hastings, Dannevirke, Marton, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Nelson, Marlborough Hutt Valley and all the Wellington clubs have been invited. However if any other club is desirous of participating in this celebration they are advised to get in touch with the Masterton Club.

In the evening a dance will be held in the Town Hall and all visitors are cordially invited. Any person interested in this matter is asked to communicate with the hon. social secretary, Masterton.

Mr J. Mulvey, deputy captain of the Nelson Club, and for seven years a member of the Masterton Club, will attend the celebrations.
