LAUNDRY WORKERS AND DRY CLEANERS
COMPLETE AGREEMENT REACHED The Nelson laundry workers and dry cleaners dispute was heard in Conciliation Council yesterday before Mr M. J. Reardon, Conciliation Commissioner. A complete agreement was reached by the parties. The hours of work are 40 per week, to be worked between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on five clays and 8 a.m. and 12 noon on Saturday. Holidays follow those named in the Factories Act, and overtime rates are also in accordance with the provisions of that Act.
Wage rates for male employees over 21 years of age are as follows: Cleaners and pressers, £4 10s per week; Other workers, £4 per week. For male ancj femgle workers under 21 years'of agg, the'wages follow the Factories Act, rising after the' seventh half-yearly period tp £2 4s per week with a provision regarding female workers for a minimum of £1 16s per week when they reach 21 years of age. It was agreed that the wage rates should cOme into operation 1 on and from Monday, 17th iust. 1 ' '
The assessors for the union were Messrs F. L. Turley, G. Wedekind and Miss Cust, and for the employers Messrs E. S. Merrick, T. E. Preen and N. A. Vercoe.
