OPENING RECEPTION CONSIDERED SATISFACTORY
£100,000,000 DEFENCE LOAN [British Official Wireless] RUGBY, 30th April. The subscription lists at the Bank of England for the 21 per cent, national defence loan of £100.000,000 opened and closed yesterday. Dealings started on the Stock Exchange this morning at I per cent. This is considerd to be satisfactory in the temporary adverse conditions of the markets, which have been disturbed by various factors during the week, as well as by end-of-account considerations. The short-dated character of the loan and periodical drawings are among features which are expected to cause the loan to gain strength.
