Sidelights oil the tipping system oil oversea mail boats were revealed in the County Court by a shipping clerk during the rehearing of an action in which Anthony Dnrvall, employed by the Orient Steamship Company, gave evidence that tips usually given bv passengers to England were £5 to the table waiter, 30s to 40s to the head waiter, 20s (o 25s to tho wine steward, £5 to the bedroom stewards, and 40s to the deck stewards, 20s to 25s to each of the four lounge stewards, and 40 lo the deck towards, who were indirectly tipped from sports fees.
