SAVE THE MOTHERS
NEW CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED MATERNAL MORTALITY [United Prenß Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] (Received 29th April, 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, 23th April. An Important new “save the mothers” campaign is announced by the Minister of Health, following publication of a White Paper embodying the report of a committee’s investigation into maternal mortality. The report states that attempted abortions are apparently frequent, are Increasing, and are responsible for a number of deaths. The Minister therefore decided on the immediate appointment of a committee of medical and legal experts with Mr Norman Birkett, K.C., chairman, to consider steps to reduce mortality from this cause. Another measure will be the provision of flying squads of skilled hospital Workers to attend women too ill to be removed from their homes.
The report also urges further iesearch into the possible influence of diet on child-bearing.
