TWO-FOLD LOYALTY
TESTED BY RECENT EVENTS ENGLISH CATHOLIC ATTITUDE FIRST PRONOUNCEMENT (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 21st December, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, 20th December. The first authoritative pronouncement of the English Catholic attitude to the recent events concerning the abdication of King Edward VIII,' was made by Archbishop Hinsley af Westminster Cathedral. He said the crisis tested the two-fold loyalty in many ways, loyalty to God and loyalty to power, which is from God, “For there is no other power but from God. Even in this hour of grief at the departure of a ruler beloved of his people, we have reason for thankfulness for the loyalty of his subjects. They have remained staunchly attached to the Throne, while desirous that God’s law should prevail. For a soul which is naturally Christian.is aware that happiness is in God and in the observance of His commandments.”
