DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL

The pupils of the Motueka School ■ were keenly disappointed that the j school had to be closed for the year j without the- usual end-of-the-year ! ceremonies. The High School pupils had arrangements in hand for a social which was to have been held oh Tuesday evening, but in view of the desirability of avoiding large gatherings of young people in halls, this had to be cancelled, along with the annual Break-Up Ceremony which was to have been held on Thursday. The pupils of the Infant Department missed their Christmas Tree, which the Infant Mistress and other members of the staff were preparing, but they had a real treat on Tuesday morning, when Father Christmas paid them a visit. The expectant and excited looks on the faces of the children as they waited for his visit showed how keenly it was appreciated. Father Christmas arrived at 11 o’clock, escorted by Mr Bailey, the chairman of the committee, and Mrs Bailey. After ( giving a present to each of the infants, he proceeded to the Hau side-school, where he again distributed presents. As the break-up ceremony was cancelled, those prizes which had been won by the High School pupils and which were available, were presented by the Acting Headmaster at a short ceremony which v/as held in the grounds. The prizes and medals which were not presented on Tuesday will be presented next year. The following is a list of prize winners for the year, and the names of. the leaders in each class for the year’s work.
