CALEDONIAN SOCIETY MEETING OF EXECUTIVE (From Our Own Correspondent' At a meeting of the executive of the Motueka Caledonian Society hel*. on Wednesday evening, Chief T. D. Milne presided over a good attendance ot members. Correspondence received from various parts of New Zealand regarding the programme and arrangements for the gatherings to be held at Motueka and Kaiteriteri on Ist and 2nd January respectively, had been replied to by the secretary, who was congratulated on his promptitude in attending to the society’s affairs. Mrs A .Douglas wrote to the effect that everything had been arranged for the luncheon and icc-crcam bosth and that the executive would be required to erect the structure and procure tables, coppers, etc., for the use of stallholders. The matter was referred to the grounds’ committee for action.

Mr If. Saunders wrote agreeing to the use of the Majestic Theatre for the concert on New Year’s Night and also offered to place the theatre at the disposal of the Society in the daytime should the weather prove, inclement for the out-of-doors fixture. Mr A. C. Dickson, Wellington, wrote confirming his appointment as judge of the piping events at both gatherings. The secretary reported on the committee’s conference with the Kaiteriteri Domain Board and the action taken was approved by the executive. Messrs V. James and A. Hyland were appointed gate-keepers for the Motueka gathering and Mr J. O. Anderson to the ticket-office for the concert.

The chairman, in referring to the . proposed Federation of Societies in; the Marlborough and Motu- j eka areas, said he had conferred with the Chief of the Nelson Scottish Society on the subject, and had stressed the need of a definite date (Ist January in each year) for the Motueka gathering in any rules that might be drawn up governing the Federation. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs J. Topp and W. Foote that the “gate” at Motueka be insured against >'ain between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to the extent of £SO.
