It was all very well for Gwen to say we must get out of the sea valley into which we had fallen, but we soon discovered that we had not the slightest idea how to do so. We had to do something, because every minute the octopus might come wandering back. And then we remembered that the Professor had told us that if we turned the button in the centre of the suits it would let the air into the suits so that they would blow up like balloons, and we should float to the surface. It was an idea for just such an emergency as this. So we lost no time in turning the buttons.
