“LABURNUM GROVE”
J. B. PRIESTLEY’S FAMOUS COMEDY
One of the most popular and successful of recent stage comedies is J. B. Priestley’s “Laburnum Grove” which has been transferred to the screen with all its irresistible mirth and co-stars Edmund Gwenn and Sir Cedric Hardwicke in their original stage roles. Priestley has shown with superb ■ conviction, the humour, comedy and roguery that lurk in the shadows of suburbia and he dresses his clever plot with human interest and smart dialogue. As George Radfern a respectable and apparently peace-loving citizen Gwenn tenders his most brilliant role to date, a sweeping statement when one considers his part in Priestley’s “The Good Companions.” Sir Cedric Hardwicke as Bernard Baxley, Redfern’s brother-in-law is a gem of character work.
