Mr Horace Goldin, president of the Magicians’ Club, declares that during the Coronation celebrations, next May, he will perform the Indian Rope Trick in the open air in Hyde Park... Mr Goldin said .he perfected, the trick two years; ago after 17 years of study and research. , A week agq,.he gave the first public exhibition in thb, world qf the trick at a London suburban music hall. “I am the only man in the world who can do the trick,” he claims. ‘T throw a rope . 20ft. long up into the air and it becomes rigid. ■ “A boy climbs to the top, and when I bang a gong, he disappears, and, the rope comes tumbling down. I can-do the trick twb different ways in the open and another way indoors.” Mr Goldin spent three years in India trying to find someone who could do the trick. He came across a Yogi who wa§ supposed to have done the trick, but the six disciples who guarded the Yogi would not allow Mr Goldin to meet him.
Talk with a disciple gave Mr Goldin a start.
The Magic Circle has offered a prize of £SOO to anyone who can perform the Indian rope trick in the open air, and Mr Bertram Mills, the circus proprietor, has offered £IOOO.
