ENGLISH TEAM

FOR SECOND TEST WORTHINGTON OMITTED (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 18th December, 10.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. G. O. Allen, the English captain, announced the following twelve players from whom the English team for the Second Test, commencing to-day, will be selected:— G. O. Allen. C. J. Barnett. A. E. Fagg. W. R. Hammond. M. Leyland. L. E. G. Ames. J. Hardstaff. R. W. V. Robins. H. Verity. J. M. Sims. W. Voce. L. B. Fishlock.

Surprise was caused by the omission of Worthington, who played in the First Test. Fears that the wicket will not last may have influenced the English selectors to choose an extra bowler, and Sims, a right hand spin bowler, may gain a place. It is agreed in Sydney that the winning of the toss will be an important factor, as the weather here is somewhat unsettled, with thun-der-storms forecast.

TEST PROSPECTS

CONFIDENCE AT HOME SOUND ENGLISH TEAM' (Received 18th December, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 17th December. : The keynote of the reviews of the Second Test prospects is one of confidence, as England is one up, is in an attacking position and has already welded a sound side. Both Robertson of Glasgow and Chapman think the issue will rest with the toss, though the latter expresses the opinion that .'/ ; England will be in a better position if the wicket crumbles, as she has better bowlers to utilise it and better batsmen to face difficult conditions. .
