INCREASE IN PENSIONS

MINISTER GIVES DETAILS OF CLAIMS AND GRANTS SINCE PASSING OF AMENDMENT ACT (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. Since the passing of the Pensions Amendment Act on 31st August of this year, 11,071 new civil pensions have been granted according to an announcement made by the Minister of Pensions, the Hon. W: E. Parry. The majority of the new pensions were granted on claims based on amended legislation, which asks the age, property and residential qualifications of the applicants. Details of the claims received and pensions granted since 31st August, together with the number of pensions in force as on Wednesday, were given by the Minister as follows: Old age claims 8147, new pensions 6,179, total pensions 50,047. Widows’ claims 849, new pensions 421, total pensions 4609. Invalidity claims 8699, new pensions 4343, total pensions 4793. Miners’ claims 193, new pensions 128, total pensions 999. Total claims are 17,888 and total new pensions 11,071. Total pensions in force number 60,448. Mr Parry added that pensions in force at 31st August had increased from 50,681 to 60,448 on 16th December, an increase of 9767.
