MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTION CHARGE
THE CERTIFICATE OF FITNESS POINT EXPLAINED BY COMMISSIONER (By Tjeiegraph-fPress Association) - WELLINGTON, This Day. Misapprehension which may have arisen over the clause in the new Traffic Regulations which provides for a charge of 5s for the inspection of a motor vehicle by an officer of the Crown, was cleared up by the Commissioner of Transport, Mr G. L. Laurenson, yesterday. Mr Laurenson said that while inspection by the Government Inspector will cost a motorist ss, it is anticipated that practically the whole of the inspections will be carried out by the larger municipalities and approved garages. The charge for these inspections will not exceed 2s 6d. Where the motorist has a regular contract for the servicing of his car he would naturally iget a six-monthly certificate of fitness without any extra cost. Mr Laurenson added that the charge of 5s was not introduced to obtain revenue.
