GROWERS’ HOPES REALISED FIRMING ON CHRISTCHURCH RATES (By, Telegraph—Press Association) TIMARU, This Day., With a record offering of 18,076 bales for the first of the season sale, the opening .Timaru wool auction today delighted South Canterbury woolgrowers, who saw the ■ realisation of their most sanguine hopes'. The catalogues were of a good mixed class and prices over the first three were very firm on Christchurch rates, with the bidding more spread than at the city auction. There was apparent firming on the Christchurch rates for- threequarter and crossbreds oh account 'of the clips being of finer description than that offered in Christchurch. Japanese buyers were operating freely on elastic limits. The first catalogue saw super merino reach 23.1 d for al2 bale let, which was exceeded in the third catalogue by 7 bales which brought 24d. Merino prices realised 19Jd. Starting at super halfbred went to 25|d, in the third catalogue, while top prices for halfbred necks reached 21Jd and bellies 16Jd. Super crossbred ranged from 16jd to 20£d for a lot of 5 bales of ewe. Supei; thrde-quarter-bred ranged from 19Jd to 21Jd for seven bales. Necks rose to 18£d.

DUNEDIN SALE POSTPONED DUNEDIN, This Day. '. The wool sale originally fixed for Monday has been postponed till Tuesday to allow the wool to reach the market for the first Dunedin sale. The original allocation of 26,000 bales has been extended to 30,000. The fine spell of weather came at an opportune time and a big catalogue will be filled.
