VALUE OF IRRIGATION

LEVELS PLAIN SCHEME OPENED (United Press Association) TIMARU, This Day. The Levels Plain Irrigation scheme, the estimated cost of which is £69,000. and which will supply water to an area of 12,800 acres, was officially opened by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, yesterday in the presence of a large crowd.

The Minister said he was convinced of the yalue of irrigation and hoped in the future to have bigger schemes in Canterbury and elsewhere. Pie paid a tribute to the work of the Public Works engineer, Mr T. G. Beck, and praised the engineers of his department in general, stating he regarded them as the equal of any in the world.
