A LONG TOW
ACROSS THE TASMAN STEAMER HIMATANGI SOLD TO AUSTRALIAN BUYERS The Anchor Shipping Company’s steamer Himatangi of 479 tons gross, has been sold to Australian buyers, the North Wallarah Colliery, of Sydney. The vessel will be towed from Wellington to by the trawler, Elsie Cam, which is expected at Wellington to-morrow. As soon after her arrival as the weather is suitable, she will leave on her tow to Sydney, which will take about 14 days. The Himatangi has been laid up in Wellington for several years. She was formerly the Coolebar, and was built at Ardrossan, Scotland, in 1911. She was purchased by the Anchor Company in 1931 from the Holm Shipping Company. Originally an Australian coastal steamer, the Himitangi, ex Coolebar, was bought in 1928 by a syndicate of Foxton business men to trade from Lyttelton and Wellington to Foxton. but not proving successful was sold to the Anchor Shipping and Foundry Co., Ltd., She ran for her new owners until September, 1931, when she was laid up in the stream at Wellington, remaining there ever since. A similar vessel, the Gunbar, brought across from Australia some years ago by Richardson and Co., Ltd. was last year bought back Australian firm after having been laid up for some time at Auckland.
