Mr S. F. Mclntyre of Westport, is the guest of Mr and Mrs A. H. Holmwood, “Rawhiti,” Nelson. The suggestion that returned soldiers throughout New Zealand should subscribe funds for a portrait of Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, K.C.8., K.C.M.G., commander of the New Zealand Division, and for twelve years Dominion president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, to be hung in the National Art Gallery, was made by the Dominion president (the Hon W. Perry, M.L.C.), at the annua! conference of the association. Mr Perry said he felt sure that arrangements could be made with the trustees of the Art Gallery for the hanging of the picture when painted, and returned soldiers would, he believed, welcome an opportunity to show their respect for their former leader and president. It was unanimously agreed that a fund should be opened,.and the suggestion was made that the portrait should be painted by a well-known New Zealand artist who is a disabled returned soldier.

Among the promotions and anDointments in the New Zealand Military Forces gazetted on the 18th June are Lieutenants O. J. Hutchison and M A. Nightingale to the rank of captain in the Ist Battalion, Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast Regiment.
