THE IRON CHANCELLOR

A POPULAR GRANDSON (By Air Mail—From Our Own Correspondent) LONDON, 14th May. Nobody remembers nowadays to blame the perilous state of Europe on its real author. That was, it must surely be admitted, the historic Prince Bismarck, who was known to his generation as Germany’s Iron Chancellor. His policy of welding a German Empire by blood and iron has had some tremendous repercussions, and may' yet wake the European echoes with fresh thunders. Yet a grandson of the Irish Chancellor, in the agreeable person of Prince Otto von Bismarck, has done all that one man could do, in his sphere of action, to promote goodwill betw-een this country and his own. He is a keen admirer and champion of Herr Hitler, but seeks to convince everybody that Der Fuhrer’s aims are essentially pacific and friendly. Prince Otto is not only popular in London himself, but his Swedish wife, one of the most beautiful blondes in Europe, is a great favourite in Mayfair drawing rooms and boudoirs. Her husband fought as an officer in the Prussian Guards before turning to diplomacy, and winning her hand whilst stationed at Stockholm.
