NEW RAILWAY BRIDGE
OVER RANGITATA RIVER CROSSED FOR THE FIRST TIME (By Telegraph—Press Association) TIMARU, This Day. The new railway bridge over the Rangitata river, replacing a wooden structure which has been in use for sixty years, was placed in commission yesterday, when it was crossed by the north-bound express. The new bridge, which is of iron with ferro-concrete pillars, is 2000 feet long and is at an elevation of about twelve feet higher than the old bridge, thus reducing the dip at the north end to a considerable extent.
