WORK OF THE MONTH MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE 2 1 , j The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Nelson A. and P. Asj sociation was held at Richmond on Saturday evening. Present: The President (Mr A. N. Wilkinson) in the chair, Messrs G. ' W. Wilkes. G. W. Best, A. Gibbs, N. 1 L. Kerr, F. C. Page, R. S. Haycock, W. Martin. D. S. Max, C. R. Sutton, 1 C. B. Webby. P. S. Haycock, R. H. Hammond, A. C. Challies. E. H. Hark- ! ness. J. H. Jordan, A. G. Griffin, W. Hill, L. P. Russ, J. G. Ingram, G. L. Mead, M. Rogers, J. Biggar, E. W. Win, H. F. Palmer. Before proceeding with the business, the vice-president moved a vote of sympathy to the President in the death of his mother, to the secretary (Mr W. D. Harkness) whose sister had recently passed away, and to the relatives of the late Mr J. Ingles, who had long been a valued member of the Society. The motion was carried in silence, members standing as a mark of respect. New members were elected as f ’- lows: Mr J. Wilson, Appleby; Mr T. Morgan. Brightwater; Mr E. Springer, Wakefield. An apology for absence was received from Mr N. G. Cole, Wakefield. CORRESPONDENCE Mr H. Atmore, M.P., wrote stating that he would extend a ormal invitation to the Governor-General to be present at the forthcoming Show. Mr Atmore wrote again forwai'ding a letter from Mr Purvis, Military Secretary, regretting that at present the Governor-General could not commit himself to an appointment so far ahead, but probably could not be present. The secretary, Nelson Trotting Club, wrote thanking the Association for the free use of the course for the recent meeting and enclosed a cheque for £5 5s to the funds of the Association. The Trotting Club was thanked for the donation. MEAT BOARD COMPETITION The secretary, New Zealand Meat' Producers’ Board, wrote giving particulars of the best three Nelson pens in the South Island District Lamb Competitions as follows: Pen. No. 53—Mr A. E. Max: “Three beautiful little lambs of ideal size. A very attractive article for the London trade." Pen No. 42—Mr R. Palmer: “Three choice lambs. One especially noticeable for its beautiful shape and make. Although somewhat larger than Pen No. 53, from other points of view of . equal merit.” Pen. No. 29—Mr Geo. Robertson: “Three good lambs. Full of meat and of good shape. A very attractive article.” General satisfaction was expressed : at the excellence of Nelson’s three best exhibits. ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY The chairman, Royal Agricultural Society, wrote stating that it had been decided to give Nelson a seat on the Council of the Society and asking the Association to appoint a member to represent the Nelson Society on the Council. It was resolved that the sitting President each year be the representative on the Council. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr J. G. Ingram, that the President represent the Association on the Nel- ; son Progress League. The schedule stewards suggested certain alterations to the schedule, and these were adopted. One of the most spectacular changes is a Draught horse trotting race insteady of a “Derby.” FINANCE COMMITTEE The Finance Committee reported that the matter of introducing new book-keeping methods had been thoroughly discussed with Mr Watt, and it had been decided that a sub-corn- ( mittee, consisting of Messrs Kerr, In- , gram, secretary and President be ap- , pointed to go into this with Mr Watt, who had kindly volunteered his services in the matter. <
