ROAD CYCLING
THREE BRIDGES ROUTE AN EXCITING FINISH TO SATURDAY’S RACE The Three Bridges route, a distance of 33 miles, was ridden on Saturday afternoon by the Nelson amateur cyclists, twenty-two competitors facing the starter at the Post Office at 2 o’clock. Weather conditions were excellent for the race, there being no wind. The limit riders maintained a good pace, and on this occasion they had reached Annesbrook on the home journey before being caught by the scratch men, Langley, Blackett and Sowerby. The bunch held together all the way up the Port road, and about twelve riders turned the Post Office corner and straightened up for the sprint to the Trafalgar Park gates for the finish, Langley, Blackett, Sowerby, Robson and Price struggling for the places, Langley finally prevailing in an exciting tussle, by three lengths. The complete result of the race was;— T. Langley (2Jmin), lhr 25min 51sec 1 F. Blackett (2£min), lhr 25min 52sec 2 L. Sowerby (2|min), lhr 25min 53sec 3 J. Robson (4|min), lhr 28min54sec 4 The next race will be held on 27th June, the course being from Nelson to Wakefield and back.
